When I was 8 years old I started doing commercials for Nintendo. I was also on a television show which co-starred Sinbad. I got into music somewhat because of my sister, she was singing at the time, so I just went with the flow and did an album how they wanted me to.
If you were told you had to choose acting or music, which one would you choose?
If I had to choose, I would definitely choose music. I feel that with music you can show more of who you are, more of your true self can be seen through your music.
Is it hard to stay close to your friends and family with such a busy work schedule?
It can be hard to stay close to your friends. My mom and dad manage me, so I get to see them pretty often.
What would you say is your greatest fear regarding your career?
I really don’t have any fears. I think you have a healthy outlook you can continue to have a successful career.
What would you like to tell teens about yourself? What kind of message would you like to send to today’s teens?
Be positive, stay down to earth and make your own decisions. Make sure you have your head on straight and be confident.
What advice would you give to teens trying to get into the business?
Stay focused and confident. You have to be able to accept rejection, just be real and remember if you don’t get it this time there will be another.
Do you write any of your own songs?
Yes, I write a lot of my own stuff. I love to write, it allows you to be real and show yourself.
Have you been influenced by any artists?
Absolutely! Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Prince to name a few.
